San Francisco, California
This project consists of 83 apartments for formerly homeless individuals and
families, in a mix of studios, one- and two-bedroom units. The apartments
are small, but provide full kitchens, storage, and ample natural light. Additional
amenities include on-site social services and a variety of community spaces,
including two interior courtyards and a landscaped rooftop deck. The services
offices and shared laundry facilities are grouped in a suite – along
with a dedicated homework and tutoring room – and located adjacent to
the Children’s Courtyard. This allows parents to supervise their children
while receiving help and participating in community life. The mid-rise building
is located in the Tenderloin neighborhood of San Francisco and was designed
to relate to the neighborhood’s architectural character, including decorative
cornice treatment, bay windows, and street level retail.
