San Francisco, California
St. Boniface, originally built in 1860, has served the diverse community of the San Francisco Tenderloin for 140 years. HKIT and Degenkolb Engineers were retained to seismically retrofit and renovate the aging church including the Friary, Parish School and 900-seat theater. One of the challenges of the $9,000,000 renovation, was to reinforce the building structurally while retaining the original architectural detail of this magnificent building. An ambitious fund-raising campaign enabled construction to begin in August 2000, the renovation was successfully completed in October of 2002.
