The HKIT / Mission Housing Development Corporation team was selected to design this new affordable housing complex at the southwest corner of Franklin and Golden Gate, which was formerly occupied by the central freeway off ramp and is now an open parking lot. The design strives to create a simple but elegant residential structure whose design, layout, and services will address the needs of older working adults (55+) as well as seniors (62+). Accordingly, HKIT designed the building to maximize site utilization, number of housing units, community space, and open space while staying within the mid-rise building height limit. The project will be home to 284 seniors, in a combination of independent apartments and suites. The ground floor will include administrative and service provider offices, 1,500 square feet of commercial/multi-use space, and a 4,300 square foot courtyard. A 13,513 square foot basement accommodates 25 cars and a maintenance shop.
