HKIT is pleased to announce that Rod Henmi, AIA, LEED AP, NOMA has joined the firm as Director of Design. His impressive award-winning portfolio of housing, municipal, educational, and civic facilities complements the firm’s 60 years of successful planning and design in the Bay Area. Mr. Henmi designed the recently completed GEDC Family Housing Building and MUNI Metro East Maintenance Facility, which received the 2009 Project of the Year Award by the American Public Works Association. Additional experience includes over 1,200 units of affordable housing. Prior to joining HKIT, Mr. Henmi was with Michael Willis Architects in San Francisco for fourteen years, where he served as Principal and Design Director.
Mr. Henmi is well known for his extracurricular contributions to the architectural profession. He has extensive university teaching experience and is a frequent critic at local universities, often presents at conferences, and is known for mentoring aspiring architects and advancing opportunities for minority professionals. He is the president-elect of the San Francisco chapter of NOMA, the National Organization of Minority Architects.
